Excel 2007: Advanced Chart Labeling

Posted February 5, 2007 by Rob Rogers in Microsoft Excel

Normally, chart labels are simply the value of the data point. You can however, depending on the type of chart you are working with, use a combination of values (series name, category name, value, and percentage). To access this option, do the following…

1. Select your chart.

2. Go to Chart Tools on the Ribbon.

3. Click Layout.

4. Click Data Labels and select More Data Label Options.

5. Select Label Options, in the left pane. Under Label Contains, check the desired options you wish to include in the label.

6. From the Separator dropdown, select how the text will be separated in the label (comma, semicolon, period, new line, or space).

7. Click the Close button.
