By default, Outlook 2010 automatically pops up a Desktop Alert to show part of a new message that has just been received. To prevent others from viewing your incoming e-mail, you can disable it.

1. Right-click on the Outlook icon in the Notification Area, next to the clock.

2. In the resulting menu, uncheck Show New Mail Desktop Alert.
