Outlook 2007: Automatically Close Original Message After You Reply or Foward
If you forward or reply to lots of messages, then this can be a real timesaver. By changing the configuration of Outlook, you can make it automatically close the original message after you have forwarded or replied to it.
1. Open Outlook.
2. Go to the menu, click Tools and select Options.

3. Under the Preferences tab, go to the E-mail section and click the Email Options button.

4. In the Message handling section, check the Close original message on reply or forward checkbox.

5. Click the OK button to close E-mail Options.
6. Click the OK button to close Options.

I am sooo frustrated that I cannot close a page! With Comcast it was sooo simple.
For example, I clicked on sent message and one appeared on the screen. Now I can’t get it off!
Isnt’t there a simple way to close what is on the screen. I’ve gone out of Outlook and come back in and the same thing is on the screen.

very helpful!
You don’t know how many superfluous windows I was stacking up of emails I was mentally done with.

I hope that this is the right place for this. Here goes. I have done something to Microsoft Outlook such that when I open a message in the Inbox it disappears when I close it. How can I make the message remain in the Inbox unless I want to delete it.

Great, except these choices are not available in my configuration. Why not?

how do I delete the original sent message when I reply to it. When I send an email message, I have it set to keep the original message with it but then I end up with the original all by itself also. A duplicate that I want to delete automatically.

Can I block this from happening to me, when people have marked the message as closed after replying? Anyway to get around the lined out message to open it, especially if its a reply to my original message?

You have left your view setting for that folder to show “Unread Messages in this folder” therefore they appear to vanish upon reading them.
Change the view back to Messages

But, how do you get open messages to automatically close once you delete them?

How do I get Outlook to leave the original email in the inbox after replying? At present, any emails I reply to automatically get deleted from the inbox and I do not want that to happen.
