Word 2007: Change Default Font
In the new version of office, the default font in word has been changed. Here is how to change the default font to whatever you wish.
What the heck is Calibri (Body)? You can change your default font for Microsoft Word if you wish.
1. Open Windows Word 2007
2. Make sure you have the Home tab selected
3. Open the font dialog box as seen on this picture
4. Once the font dialog opens, change the default properties you wish. Press the Default button when you are done.

Why MS doesn’t provide a guide that shows (like this one) I have no idea.
Thanks

Thank you. I kept getting points taken off papers because the default was Calibri size 11, not TNR size 12.

Clear, consice, to the point. Very easy to follow.

The procedure above works just fine. My problem is with text (.txt) files. In 2003, they opened Calibri New, 10 points. I have a hydraulic calculation program that generates txt files for which I had written extensive formatting macros. In 2007, it opens txt files Calibri New, 10.5 points. Even if I insert at the beginning of the macro to change this font to 10 points, it is too late, the damage is done. By opening in the 10.5 font size, the number of blank lines between bodies of chararacters is changed. What I need is to open TXT files Calibri New, 10.0 Points.
Any Ideas would be great.

And how do I change the default font in Outllook 2007?
I changed it in Word, but Outlook brings still ‘Calibri’ as default?
And how do I change the default font color?
Thanks
The MS help is of absolutely no help!

When I follow these steps to change to Times New Roman, 12 font, it reverts back to Calibri when Word is re-opened.

I did it, several times. But when I click on the Normal icon, everything changes to Calibri. I even deleted the Calibri font, to no effect.

It didn’t work for me, but at last I’ve done it! Under “Search programs and files” type “Templates”. A window opens listing a number of templates, including “Normal”. Open that, change the font to whatever you want and save it. You need never see Calibri again!
rumple said on September 21, 2010
I have the same problem. I tried changing the default style, but that changes the font, which you then have to change. I set all defaults, the font stays, but the style doesn’t. The style always defaults back to Normal, no matter what I do. I don’t know what the point of having Set Default Style is if it doesn’t set anyway.
If anybody can tell me how to actually change the style, I’d really appreciate it.
Glad to get rid of Calibri though!

The next time that you make a document, it’ll automatically start with that type of writing

But Times New Roman 12 – Regular – shows up as Calibri onscreen…Changing it ti Italic or Bold or 11, or 13 is OK.
Why???

Next to where you open the font window, you can open a window called Paragraph, where you can set your line spacing. Make sure it is single-spaced, with 0pt before and after. If you want a little bit more space between the lines without it being obviously double-spaced, you can add points in the before and after fields to give just that little extra room between lines.

Can someone please help me?!? I’ve tried doing exactly as instructed but everytime I reopen Word it defaults back to Calibri. Why won’t it allow me change the default?
Anonymous said on April 21, 2011
Do you have softwares like DeepFreeze on your system?
Rlofl said on June 1, 2011
Agreed. It was not easy figuring out why it insisted on making it “(Body)”, and find & replace doesn’t match if it’s tagged as such.

This doesn’t solve the problem. Whenever I re-open Word, it sets everything right back. Where is the template file located and what’s it called?
Barbara Ford said on August 24, 2011
I hope someone can figure this out. I am using Word 2007. Nothing has changed. It used to work–I changed my default font when I first set up my computer. Easy Peasy. Now, no matter what I do, the change in default font will NOT hold. Next time I go in, same old default font. HELP??????

Works fine, that is, new documents will typically start with the new chosen font. But the Calibri (body) and Cambria (headings) setting on font drop down box remains.
