You must have a GSM cellular phone/device connected to your computer for this to work.
If you don’t have an GSM device available and still need to send SMS messages, try Using AIM to Send SMS messages.
It’s great for “pick up bread” type messages!
You can also use this method through the command line. Here is a cut/paste of the command line help:
smssender.exe [ /p:
/i Phone number is expressed in the international format.
/u Message encoded as UCS-2. By default GSM alphabet is used.
/l Log the sent message.
/? Displays this help.
