IE7: How To Remove the Search Bar

Posted December 6, 2006 by Rob Rogers in Internet Explorer IE7

If you do not utilize IE7’s Search Bar and wish to remove it from the browser, simply do the following:

1. Open up Notepad and copy the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions]
"NoSearchBox"=dword:00000001

2. Save the text file and rename it to for example “IE7_NoSearchBar”. Then merge it into the registry by double clicking it.

To return the Search Bar to the browser use:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions]
"NoSearchBox"=dword:00000000
