Ubuntu: Disable the Automatic Playing of CD and DVD Discs

Under the default settings, Ubuntu automatically begins playing CD and DVD discs when they are loaded into the CD/DVD drive. It also will automatically begin playing music files once a supported portable music player is connected. To change any (or all) of these settings to better meet your needs:

1. Click System, mouseover Preferences and select Removable Drives and Media.

2. When the Removable Drives and Media Preferences window appears, select the Multimedia tab.

3. Uncheck the checkboxes for Audio CD Discs, Video DVD Discs and/or Portable Music Players to disable the automatic playing when inserted or connected.

4. Click the Close button.
