I only use Google Talk periodically, so I have no need for the Talk application to automatically sign onto my account every time that I happen to turn on my phone. Here’s how stop this.

1. Open the Talk application.

2. Select the Menu key.

3. Select More.

4. Select Settings.

5. Uncheck the Automatically sign in checkbox.

Now the account will only be signed into when you launch the Talk application and not when you turn on your phone.

More importantly, I wish you could set it to whatever account you want. Right now my main Android account is my Google Apps for Domain account but my chatting is historically done on my gmail account. Unfortunately you can't set the account used for chat on the android.

You can't download anything from Android Market if you aren't logged in on Google Talk!
