Android: How to Hide Patterns When Unlocking the Phone

Posted by Lê Hoàng in Android

Typically, when you unlock your Android phone using a pattern, the pattern will be visible on the screen. This makes it possible for other people to unlock your phone when you are away by guessing and imitating the gesture. To increase the security level, you can configure the phone to hide the pattern when you unlock the phone. By doing so, it will be much harder for people to guess the gesture.

Recently, I discovered that my younger brother often played and even purchased games on the Play Store on my phone without my permission. I thought I had blocked him because my phone was locked using a pattern. I realized that he might have figured out my phone’s unlock pattern by watching the visible gesture. I changed the pattern, made it invisible, and the problem was solved.

1. Open the phone app drawer, and choose Settings from there.

2. In the Settings page, scroll down to the bottom, and choose the Security section.

3. Once you are in the Security section, uncheck the Make pattern visible option. This option is only visible when the screen lock setting is set to Secured with pattern.

4. Exit the Settings section. Lock the phone’s screen to test the results. When you draw the pattern, it will not be visible anymore.

MY lock pattern WAS displayed in RED even though my tick box was already OFF.
When I ticked the box, the pattern was GREEN.
I then UNticked the box and the pattern was invisible.
Maybe displaying the pattern in RED is an indication to the user that the ticking and unticking loop needs to be gone through once you are happy with your lock pattern ?

These pattern security thing can be easily guessed by looking at the ‘movement’ of the finger print marks on the screen. Just have the glass screen shine at a bright light and the oily screen will reveal the ‘pattern’

Are you aware of any type of a default pattern to unlock a sampsung android phone. I have a situation with the brand new phone that my girlfriend was checking out you know how we all do when first get a new phone, go thru change settings, personalize up a lil and so on. Well she put a pattern lock on it and never showed, or told what it was, that was last summer june 2012. Unfortunately her and i parted ways due to troubled relationship problems, and here i sit with a brand new phone i purchased and have yet to be able to use, so if any one knows of this solution please help me so i can have me a new phone. Thanks for all the tech help.

Flash your phone. Since it’s “new” you won’t lose anything. Look online for instructions how to do this.
