How to Update Your Facebook Status from Google+

Posted July 8, 2011 by Rob Rogers in Google

If you are spending a lot of time checking out Google+ and don’t want to neglect your Facebook friends, you can easily share your Google+ updates with Facebook and you don’t need additional software or extensions.

1. First, you need to get the upload email for your account from Facebook. To do this go to Facebook and login to your account. Then go to

Go to the upload section and copy the address for your personalized upload email.

Copy the personalized upload email address.

2. Now go to Google+ and login to your account.

3. Use the navigation bar at the top of the page and click the Circles button.

4. At the bottom of the page, mouseover the Drop here to create a new circle Circle and click the Create circle link.

5. Input a name for the Circle, such as Update Facebook.

6. Click Add a new person.

7. Paste the Facebook personalized upload email address in the textbox.

8. Click the Create circle with 1 person button.

Now, anytime you wish to update your Facebook status while you are in Google+, simply add the newly created Update Facebook circle to your post. Note – You need to make sure that the Also email 1 person not yet using Google+ checkbox is checked.

  • I set this up, but the post “Facebook, meet Google+. Google+, this is Facebook, the one I’ve been telling you about.” was truncated to “Facebook, meet Google+. Google+, this is …”

    • Tried with a pic.  Np pic in FB and post truncated again.

I’m getting the same response.  I tried sharing a link this way, but my post was truncated and the link not included.

  • I set this up, but its not working guys

    • Did you make sure to check the Also email 1 person not yet using Google+ checkbox?  I noticed that I didn’t point that out in the tutorial, so it’s added now.  I just tested it and it runs fine.

        Where is that checkbox?

        • Screenshot added to show the location.  It’s next to the Share and Cancel buttons.

I set it all up exactly as per the tutorial (it’s pretty simple)… when I created a post and shared it with my “Update Facebook” circle, the text was truncated to 25 characters and the URL I shared didn’t make it through at all.   Definitely flawed.

  • Ellie

Same problem here. Post truncated. I have the box checked as well.

  • Chuck

Definitely truncates at 25 characters. Odd since a normal email to the FB addy works fine.
