This quick policy will stop software theft by disabling cd burning options.

This tutorial will work in XP Pro or Vista.

open the group policy editor
Start\Run type gpedit.msc

now move through the left pane to:
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\

now to the right find the key: Remove CD Burning Features
double click and select enable

This will stop users from being able to burn cds, and thus discouraging downloading on a network.

I have a DellStudio 15 with a DVD RW burner. I’m trying to burn pictures I took from my camera and downloaded to my Dell. I am trying to burn them on a CD-R but keep getting the message to insert a writable disk, even though I know I am inserting a blank CD-R. Help!

It doesn’t avoid to burn it via another software rather than Explorer
