Windows 7: How to Prevent Themes from Changing Desktop Icons

By default, Windows 7 allows themes to change the desktop icons. If you enjoy using various themes to customize the look of your Windows 7 interface, but don’t want to change the desktop icons, you can prevent changes by following these steps.

1. Right-click your desktop and select Personalize from the resulting menu.

2. In the left pane, select Change desktop icons.

3. When the Desktop Icons Settings window appears, go to the bottom of the window and uncheck the Allow themes to change desktop icons checkbox.

4. Click the OK button.
