Facebook: Change Group Photo Cover

Posted February 27, 2012 by Lê Hoàng in Internet

By default, a Facebook group’s photo cover is a combination of the members’ profile photos. While this is an interesting idea, many groups will want to change the cover photo to an image that better represents the group as a whole.

Recently, Facebook updated the appearance of the group function. Now, a photo which covers the entire top of the Facebook group page greets members visiting the group page. Initially, this will be a collage built from the profile pictures of the group. However, some member’s profile pictures may be inappropriate. Additionally, the cover can get crowded if the group has too many members.

Following these steps will allow you to change your group photo cover to a different image.

1. Log in to your Facebook account.

2. Go to the respective group in the left side bar.

3. Hover your mouse over the group’s photo at the top of the window. Click the small photo icon and choose Upload a Photo.

4. Choose your picture from the upload window. The perfect resolution for the group’s cover photo is 800 x 200. Larger image should be fine because you can reposition and resize it later.

5. When the upload process completes, hit Save Changes. If the picture is not at the right position, use your mouse and drag the picture to reposition it.

6. The cover picture is now changed.

Later, if you decide to change the picture or want to revert back to the original one, follow these instructions:

1. Move your mouse over the cover photo, click the Change Group Photo button and then choose Upload a Photo. The process of uploading a new photo is similar to the steps above. To revert back to the original cover picture, hit Remove Photo.

2. When you click Remove Photo, a confirmation window will pop up. Just click Okay to remove it.

3. If you are successful, you will see a notification box. Just click Okay to complete the process.

4. The original group’s cover is now back.

I’ve been reading the size 800 x 200 but what happens when I upload it, the last 3rd of the photo on the right is cut off. I dont understand this. It also does not allow to reposition again the 800 x200 pixel because it’s fixed. Am I the only one having this problem and nobody else? I dont know what to do 🙁

HELP!! How can I prevent members from adding a cover photo to my Group?

I have my Group Cover photo settings set to pictures of members who post on the Group. A couple of hours ago someone added a horrible Cover Photo. How do I prevent Group Members from adding/changing a Cover Photo to a Group they are not the Admin of? I want my Group to be the default pictures of people who post to the group. I have know idea where the settings are. I don’t see anything in the Group Settings about Members changing the Cover Photo of the Group. Thanks so much. Could the setting be in my personal settings? Thanks for helping.

Are you the admin of the group? If so, you can edit those settings to make it so that the Admin must approve.

How do i change using a mobile

  • Daryl Smith

I have noticed that when I go to a group that is still using the default members pictures I am able to change that groups picture. Can that issue be fixed? I am sure I would not want someone changing my group picture. Once they change to a new picture I am not able to change it.

  • e

Can you you update and save without it notifying everyone in the group? I just had to make some minor tweaks to my image.

I would REALLY love to be able to change my business’s cover photo without sending a notification of the change to all our members. Any ideas on how to do this? Everything I have tried doesn’t work. Thanks,
