iTunes: How to View and Download Previously Purchased Music, Apps, and Books

Posted June 14, 2011 by Rob Rogers in Music

With the introduction of iTunes in the Cloud, you can easily download previously purchased music, apps, and/or books to your computer. This is especially great when you want to listen to a previously purchased album on your computer that you bought on your iOS device.

1. Open iTunes.

2. In the left pane, select Purchased.

3. In the lower-right corner of the window, click Download Previous Purchases.

4. The Purchased page will appear.

5. Select Music, Apps, or Books to find the desired items you wish to download.

6. A list of previously purchased items will appear. To narrow the list down, select the Not in My Library button in the upper-right corner of the page.

7. Find the desired item and click the corresponding icon.

8. The item will be downloaded to your computer.

I just updated itunes and I only have the Apps and Books options.  There is no music option to download previous purchases.  Perhaps a restiction specific to Australia

Same problem here. I´m in Norway. The “music-button in download previous purchases is missing..

    Same here.

  • Very Disappointed

Australia/Brisbane – same here…. Very disappointing thing is that previous to this, there was an option for music in Australia, in older versions of iTunes, in the menu was ‘get purchases’ option… I had a hard drive failure a couple of years ago and I was able to re-download most of the music I had purchased from iTunes. Now its just been taken away and given to the US only…

I have just about had a gut full of Apple taking stuff away and restricting it to US only garbage… great way to alienate your client base apple…

I might go back to buying hard copies on CD and just ripping it to my computer.. At least that way I get to keep a copy in the event of a hardware failure.

The American iTunes store > purchased offers Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps and Books. Well, I bought a album on another computer about a year ago, and I did hope to find the album in Prepurchased Music. But no. It is gone. And if i tab the buy button on the album it says: “You have already purchased this item. Wpuld you like to but it again?. My response: NO. I WANT MY ALBUM BACK!
