Facebook: How To Use the Old Photo Viewer (Instead of the Light Box)

Posted February 17, 2011 by Rob Rogers in Internet

Facebook has rolled out a new photo viewer which uses a light box to display the photos. If you don’t like using the new viewer, you can go back to old way with a simple adjustment to the address.

1. Login to Facebook and go to a Photo page to view.

2. Select the Album you wish to view.

3. The photos will be displayed in the new light box.

4. Go up to the address bar. Go to the end of the displayed address. Remove &theater from the end of the address and press return on your keyboard.

5. The old viewer will appear, allowing you to look at the album in the manner that you have become accustomed to.

Pressing the F5 key or refresh in the browser will also work.
The refresh option is handy if you are using a mobile device that has been configured not to use the mobile version of websites where available.

    • Unfortunately, refreshing the browser does not work 100% of the time, removing &theater will always work for getting rid of the light box.

  • you can also right click on the first image (while viewing the album) and open in new tab 🙂

Is there any way to tell FB you want it the old way all the time? I don’t want to remove “&theater” or have to hit F5 everytime I look at a photo.
