Disappearing or Closing Task Manager from AIM Virus/Trojan/Worm

If your Task Manager automatically closes itself, you have a worm. This tutorial explains how to regain control of your system. This bug is typically known as the Best Friends / Away Message virus.


One of our new members, Mickey Mouse, has been trying to help some visitors clear their system of the Best Friends / Away Message AIM virus. Some versions of this virus will automatically close the Task Manager. If you cannot kill the bug with the Task Manager, then you cannot clean your system.

(If pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL only causes your Task Manager to show for a brief second, then you have this problem.)
