Install a Solaris Datastream Package

Datastream packages, such as those obtained from, can be installed though translation to a directory-based package or directly, using pkgadd.

To install an uncompressed datastream package called SUNWtchrx from the current working directory, use the following:

pkgadd -d SUNWtchrx

This command syntax instructs pkgadd to use the datastream package file as the device rather than a directory as used with a directory-based package add.
