By default, the new Opera Mini uses a thumbnail representation of the entire web page you are viewing for initial navigation. On small screens, such as my RAZR, this view is pretty useless because it is so small that you are unable to make out any of the contents of the page. This means you don’t know what to zoom in to view. You can enable the small screen rendering which is the same as earlier versions of Opera Mini while keeping the rest of the new features by following these steps:
Excel’s status bar can come in handy by giving you additional information when you select a range of cells. By default, it displays the Average, Count, and Sum. You can also include Minimum, Maximum, and Numerical Count, or any combination of the six options.
Well, i know i’m a huge fan of accessing my account info via my phone and at times get a bit sick of entering my account info each time i dial an automated system. lets make it easier and setup speed dials for this! WARNING, if you do decide to do this i would recommend setting up security on your phone so that a pin is required to access your phone book incase your phone is lost or stolen and your info will not be in harms way!
The little microphone/switch that bulges out on the right side of the headphones included with the iPhone can do some neat tricks other than answer or hang up a call. When not in a call, you can use this switch to control the iPod functions of the iPhone. It’s a testament to Apple’s designers to implement something simple like this that would be easy to overlook.
The headphones included with the iPhone have some useful special features. With them, you can answer your phone, ignore a call sending it straight to voicemail, oh, and even listen to music.
What was the URL of that cool site? Ugh, what was it called? Keeping track of where you’ve been in a browser is an essential function for those of us who have a hard time remembering what day it is. The Safari in iPhone handles the history display a little differently than a standalone Safari on your computer does. Here’s how to access it.
Agree with it or not, you’ll be asked during a flight to turn off your cell phones. You can still use the other features of your iPhone (iPod playback of music or video and other non-networked applications) by turning off the cellular and wireless networking components. You’ll also preserve your battery power this way so it can be useful when Earth-bound, too.
When I frequently make calls to automated systems that require an additional digit or extension to be dialed, I like to add these dialing key presses into my contact’s number with dialing pauses as appropriate. The iPhone makes it easy to put pauses into a contact’s phone number.
The call forwarding feature on the iPhone is hands down the coolest one I’ve seen on a mobile. With other phones, I’ve setup fake contacts with the dialing code so that I could quickly dial the number to forward or unforward my phone. Forwarding your iPhone is different and definitely cool.
The email application on the iPhone has a default signature for all outgoing messages of “Sent from my iPhone” which is convenient on your first day of iPhone ownership since this is likely the email you’ll send to people first. When they new wears off and you are sending emails for reasons other than bragging rights, you’ll probably want to remove or change the signature.
The iPhone’s built-in web browser Safari is the best mobile browser I’ve ever used and I suspect that it will be getting a lot of use from new iPhone users. Adding a bookmark for an interesting or important website is a fundamental browser operation which is easily done on the iPhone.
The iPhone will be a great tool for people who thrive on being extremely organized. You know who you are. If you are also a thorough bookmarker, sorting them into hierarchical folders is a must. While your iPhone can sync your Safari bookmarks and those folders, you may want to add a new category while you’re away from your desktop.
