XP Pro and Vista: Remove Folder Options

This will remove the ‘Folder Options’ option under the tools menu and prevent users from modifying the look of the folders or change folder settings.


In both Vista and XP Pro, you can remove the Folder Options selection under the tools menu to prevent modification to the folder settings.

open the group policy editor
Start\Run type gpedit.msc

now move through the left pane to:
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\

now to the right find the key: Removes the Folder Options menu from the Tools Menu
double click and select enable

Now users cannot modify the look of the folders, change folder settings, or apply hidden folder options.

    I have tried the procedure but it doesn’t work in my PC.
    I am using an winXP Pro.

    when i type gpedit.msc in the run tab….it gives me the errror;

    “Windows cannot find ‘gpedit.msc’. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and then try again.

    Please mail me the solution. I would be grateful
