Change Number of Items in \’My Recent Documents\’

If you want more or less items under the “My Recent Documents” section, this registry hack will show you how to do it.

1. Click Start.
2. In the run box, type regedit, and press OK.
3. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

4. Click the Edit menu.
5. Select New -> DWORD.
6. Name it MaxRecentDocs.
7. Double-click your new DWORD to change the value to the number of documents that you wish.

The default value is 15. Even if you set it higher, Windows will still set other limits on how many documents are shown here.

If you are not familiar with editing the registry, do not do it before setting a system restore point and backing up your system.
