Mail.app: Have Your Email Read to You

At times, it would be nice to have your email read to you while you do other things. Leopard’s Mail.app will read aloud any email(s) you select from your Inbox.

1. Select a message (or messages) from the Inbox or open an email message.

2. Go to the menu and click Edit, mouseover Speech and select Start Speaking.

The entire message will be read to you. If you want to have a portion of the message read aloud, select the desired text before selecting Start Speaking

To stop the reading, go to the menu and click Edit, mouseover Speech and select Stop Speaking.
