Android ICS: Safely Disable Built-in Apps without 3rd-Party Applications

Many Android applications have the ability to start and run automatically in the background without your direct permission. Most of those apps are unnecessary will consume your battery or and Internet data usage. Using existing functions of your Android tablet or phone, you can disable these applications safely.

Although there are many applications on the Google Play Store that can freeze or unfreeze bloatware, many of them are either not free. Additionally, many of these helper applications are simply not safe to use, especially for people who are new to Android. Disabling an important application can cause crashes or strange behavior on your phone. Fortunately, the built-in disabling features for Android ICS lets you disable only applications that be blocked or frozen safely.

1. Open the app drawer and choose Settings from the list.

2. When the Settings screen appears, scroll down to the Device section and choose Apps.

3. Swipe the Sorting app area to the left side to access All apps section. This section is not displayed by default because only three sections can be displayed on screen at the same time.

4. Choose the app that you want and hit Disable.

5. A warning window will probably pop up on screen, just tap OK to confirm and dismiss it.

6. The disabled apps will be moved down to the bottom of the list. This is a good way to keep the app list organized and help users find the apps that they previously disabled.

7. To enable the app again, go to its App info screen and choose Enable.

8. Please note that disabled apps will disappear from the app drawer.
