Skype: Remove the Skype icon from the Taskbar in Windows 7

Posted October 25, 2011 by Lê Hoàng in Internet, Windows 7

By default, when you close the Skype window in Windows 7, its icon will still appear in your Taskbar. If you find this unnecessary, you can follow this tutorial to remove it, and keep your Taskbar clean.

1. Launch Skype.

2. Go to Tools -> Options.

3. When the Options window pops up, navigate to Advanced -> Advanced settings from the left side of the window.

4. Uncheck Keep Skype in the Taskbar while I’m signed in on the right side of the window.

5. From now, when you close the Skype window, its icon will not appear in your Taskbar anymore.

This recipe does not work…Skype stubbornly remains on the task bar after logging out and closing the program. Whether or not Skype is enabled in Win Startup is of no consequence either.

    Win 7 Home Premium
Skype Free latest version (as of 11/01/2011)

Perhaps this recipe works for the paid (business) version(s) only.

Please read through the post first. The option said: Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m SIGNED IN. It only works when you are using Skype, not when you have signed out.

When you have logged out, simply right-click on the icon and choose Quit.

Right clicking and choosing quit DOES NOT work. Dangit!!

I agree, it does not work! Even if I right-click and choose Quit, the icon stays. In addition, a new window is automatically opened in the C: drive, and folder “system 32”. doesn’t make sense at all, and this did not happen with my old computer.
