Adobe Reader 7: Use CoolType to Optimize Viewing of PDFs on Laptops

Adobe Reader 7.0 contains a feature called CoolType that smoothes text and monochrome graphics, making documents easier to read. It is optimized for LCD screens and laptops. To enable CoolType, use the steps below.

Prior to enabling the CoolType setting, open a PDF which contains a significant amount of text. This way, you can immediately see the outcome of turning on the setting.

    1. Click Edit.

    2. Select Preferences.

    3. In the Preferences dialog box, select the Page Display link in the left pane.

    4. Check Use CoolType (Recommended for laptop/LCD screens) in the right pane.

    5. Click OK.
