Facebook: How to Prevent Your Profile from Showing Up in Public Searches

Posted May 14, 2010 by Rob Rogers in Internet

If you don’t want anyone who types your name into Google’s search box (or Facebook’s for that matter) to be able to find your profile in the search results, you can change the default settings to keep yourself invisible to the general public.

1. Go to Facebook and login to your account.

2. Go to the menu on the upper right corner of the page. Click Account and select Privacy Settings from the dropdown.

3. Select Search.

4. To limit Facebook searches, go to the Facebook Search Results dropdown. Change the setting from Everyone to Only Friends (or Friends of Friends if you don’t want to lock it down too far).

5. Go to the Public Search Results section and uncheck the Allow checkbox.

6. When the Are you sure? box appears, click the Confirm button.
