Alta Vista Babel Fish: How to Link to Translated Page

Alta Vista’s Babel Fish (now available through Yahoo) is a powerful translation tool. This Tech-Recipes tutorial explains how to pass links through Babel Fish in order to translation them to various languages.

I often read web pages that are written in languages other than English by using Babel Fish.
Recently hanson_mark on slashdot broke down the URL in a way that is easy to understand:

To post a Babel Fish link you can use the following:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr?lp=translate type&url=url to translate

Where "translate type" is one of the following:

en_zh - English to Chinese
en_fr - English to French
en_de - English to German
en_it - English to Italian
en_ja - English to Japanese
en_ko - English to Korean
en_pt - English to Portuguese
en_es - English to Spanish
zh_en - Chinese to English
fr_en - French to English
fr_de - French to German
de_en - German to English
de_fr - German to French
it_en - Italian to English
ja_en - Japanese to English
ko_en - Korean to English
pt_en - Portuguese to English
ru_en - Russian to English
es_en - Spanish to English

Also, make sure the "url to translate" is correctly URL encoded.

For example, the following URL will translate tech-recipes from English into Spanish. All clicks from the URL will be translated into Spanish as well.

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr?lp=en_es&url=www.tech-recipes.com

Thank you, hanson_mark.
