Photoshop: Change the Auto Save Recovery Information Interval

Starting with CS6, Photoshop has an auto-save feature. Following these steps you can tweak how often a version of your image is saved.

The default save interval in PS is ten minutes, but you can always change it to a number as low as five minutes. By have a more frequent save interval, you do not have to backtrack and repeat as many actions to recover your work. Changing the interval time in photoshop can be accomplished through these steps.

1. Launch Photoshop CS6 or later.

2. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> File Handling.

Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + K to bring up the Preferences window and choose File Handling option from the left side.

3. Find the Save in Background option on the right side of the window. Make sure it is checked. Then check the box next to the Automatically Save Recovery Information Every option. This will allow us to modify the saving recovery information interval.

4. Click the arrow next to the drop-down box to change the save interval. Available options are: 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes or up to 1 hour.

5. When you are done, click OK to save the setting.
