Playstation 3 – Use Remote Play on any Windows 7 PC (2014 update)

Posted by Jimmy Selix in Games

This recipe is for the Playstation3 / PS3 users out there that want to utilize the Remote Play features on their PS3.  Normally, Sony allows Vaio branded laptops the ability to connect to the PS3 via Remote Play.  With the help of 2 patched files from PSDevWiki, we can use the Remote Play software on any PC that has a wireless network adapter. (updated 4/3/2014)

Credit to
NTAuthority for the patch old, non-working patch and PSDevWiki devs for the new patch. PS3 firmware 3.30+ is required.

Requirements:

-Playstation 3 (original or Slim) with firmware 3.30 or higher (tested on latest as of 4/4/2014)
-PC/Laptop running Windows 7 or Windows 8 (32bit/64bit) and WiFi adapter
-Full administrator rights with Windows user account on PC/Laptop
-Both devices on same network

Software:

-Remote Play Software v1.1.0.15070 (download from Sony here)
-Patched v 1.1.0.15070 Dlls and EXE (download from PS3Wiki site)
–Alternative MediaFire hosted Download w/both files (here)

Instructions:

1. Download both the installer file (EP0000248680.exe) and the patched .rar files (remoteplay 1.1 patch.rar)

2. Run the installer file EP0000248680.exe and once it finishes, click on Finish.

3. Extract the patched rar files using 7zip (free and excellent!) or whatever app you may have. We now will need to copy these files to the Remote Play’s Program Files folder (32-bit OS: c:\program files\sony\remote play with playstation 3\ or 64-bit OS: C:\program files (x86)\sony\remote play with playstation 3\).  If asked for administration permissions, click on Continue (ie Windows 8 computers).

4. Finally, we can now launch the Remote Play by using the patched exe file we copied: rmp_launcher.exe .  This will launch the Remote Play software and in turn the initial pairing wizard.

We will want to make a shortcut to the rmp_launcher.exe since we need to run this launcher each time we use Remote Play to bypass the Vaio hardware check Sony put into the Remote Play software.  Just right-click on the rmp_launcher.exe file and then choose Send To > Desktop.  This put a shortcut right on our Desktop that we can in turn rename and even change the icon for.  I personally move it into the C:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs folder so that way it is available to all user accounts via the Start Mene.

I also remove the shortcut that the installer creates since it launches VRP.exe directly and will give you this error.

error-notpatched

If you’re using a desktop with a wired network connection, you will need an external wireless adapter connected to initially pair.  However once you have paired your PS3 and Desktop PC; you won’t need the adapter again.

5. Go through the setup wizard.  You will want to have your PS3 and PC on the same network for this initial pairing.  On your PS3, go to Settings > Remote Play > Register Device to start pairing.

6. Hopefully once your done with the wizard, you should be connected to your PS3!

–Some are probably wondering, “What is Remote Play?Remote play lets you access your PS3′s XMB and certain content remotely. It was initially used w/PSPs but has been expanded to work with specific Sony Ericsson phones and Sony Vaio laptops. More detailed info can be found over at the official Playstation site.

–When exiting the Remote Play application on your PC, you can choose to Power Off the PS3 or Leave it in Remote Play mode.  You can also change settings on the PS3 to allow it to wake from Standby when Remote Play is started.  Remote play does use port 9293; you may need to forward this port on your router and open it up in your firewall.

Hardware Tested On:  HP Pavilion 11t-h100 x2 PC running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and PS3 Slim running 4.55 firmware, date 4/4/2014

I have followed all the steps, get the screen asking to name the device, which I do, then get screen to enter the Register Device Code from the PS3, and after I enter it and continue to next step the screen where it obviously tries to register freezes and then a popup comes up asking “debug program” or “close” cause its not responding. Has anyone else gotten this problem and got a fix for it? I have 32 bit windows 7

To solve the 0×800… error you have to run as admininstrator the command shell:
open the start menu, quick search cmd.exe, right click on it and select run as adminstror. ;-)

I get the error “the program can’t start bcause d3dx9_42.dll is missing from ur computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. I have windows ultimate7.

    • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

i think you may need some directx runtime files. does running the app as an adminstrator help at all? have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling app?

      • Mikespike_1003

sorry i tried that but it also still gives me the message: d3dx9_42.dll is missing from ur computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. I have windows ultimate7.

i also have windows 7 ultimate like he does

        • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

ah, i rememeber this error now!! you need to update your runtime from here:
          http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/directx/aa937788.aspx

and also may need the visual basic runtime too. i’ll redo my desktop’s remote play setup since i redid my pc last week and let you know tonight :)

I also had the same problem with windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) … I solved this problem by downloading and installing the latest version of DirectX (10 i believe) You can download these files directly from the Microsoft website …. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3021d52b-514e-41d3-ad02-438a3ba730ba …. that is the link I used roughly 30 minutes before posting this comment

The issue is you need dlls is from Directx 9 package. Windows 7 generally has DirectX 11 installed on it. You can go around this issue by installing DirectX SDK modules from

  • Pdfmusicscore

is it possible to use the sixaxis controller during the remote play, like in the open remote play version 1.2 before

    • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

not at the moment, its very limited to what you can do and at this point is just for show more than anything.

no games are playable over remote play; only local ps3 videos, music, photos, friends, psn store are accessible. cool idea but not much use at moment.

  • Aguy

    Hi guys!

I also use Windows 7 and had the same error: “the program can’t start bcause d3dx9_42.dll is missing from ur computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”.

Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

    • kyle

      > I typed in code in search engine and its a 3d driver i downloaded

  • Phil

Bit a slightly more complicated problem here. Followed the readme and checked these steps, all done to the letter. Works fine, except when I try to register it, I input the registration number from my PS3, and the instant it starts to register, W7 says it crashed. I’ve tried to run it as an admin, and also changed its priorities in the Task Manager. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • audcar

I have instaled the program and i fixed the dll but when im trying to connect with my playstation the program is frezzed and search for an answer

  • f_kay

Same Problem over here. I also disconnected the internet and he tries to connect to the ps3 network. It doesnt crash but i get another error that the ps3 isnt found.
Can somebody tell us why it isnt working? Some of the 64bit users posted that its workin on their systems – so is there a problem with my network?

  • Aguy

    Thanks Seamonkey420!

I will download it. It seems it is DirextX end-user Runtime on Microsoft http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-u… (used your link from 3 weeks ago) I would let know if it wordks. Already thanks!

Did you follow step 3 under the 64bit version where you replace the dll’s with the patched versions? You have to do that or else you won’t be able to run it because the program thinks its installed on a Sony Vaio computer… Hence the patch.

All works well, patching and all. during registration, its closes the program, with option to “SEND ERROR” or “CLOSE PROGRAM”. Other than all that, it works. If im not on same network, it works up to point of registration, and says it cant find the PS3 (obviously because its on different network). so its just a problem once it connects to the PS3 to register. Anyone have any ideas?

I’m with the others who’s registration fails. It occurs after hitting next once I’ve entered in the 8 digit number. First i get a message that it’s registering to the Playstation 3 system and then that message dims. I then receive a message that says that the program has stopped working. I’m using windows 7 Home Premium. Please Help :)

      • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

question number 1: is this on a laptop or desktop? if a desktop, do you have a usb wifi card or adapter plugged in during registration?

you do need a wifi card for it to try to register :)

        • Bludgeonesis

Thanks for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. :)

Have managed to get the PSP up and running with remote play, but this PC thing is killing me!

It is a Toshiba A500 satellite laptop. I’m assuming if it can access the internet via my wireless router that it has an inbuilt wifi card yeah?

While experimenting and turning wifi off on my laptop, instead of it crashing when trying to register, it brings up another message saying “device registration failed” with a bunch of possible reasons for it.

Once you turn on the” register PC” on the PS3, a wireless connection appears in my available connections window. I’ve even tried having my laptop connected to this but it asks me for a security key. I found this online but that doesn’t help either.

          Any ideas?

It does seem like it is something to do with the home connection as the registration does not crash when i turn the wifi off on my laptop.

Hope i made some sort of sense.

Look forward to hearing from you,

          Regards

          • Jackson

I’ve got the same laptop has this guy.
            Toshiba A500.
            Exact same problem.
I can remote play my PSP, yet my LAPTOP cannot be registered.
            :/
            Strange.

          • Jackson

I also tried manually connecting to the PS3regpc access point, and tried registering once connected, yet it didn’t work.
For those of you out there. The WPA / Passkey to the PS3regpc access point is:
            RvnpNXP}xS5qOWfj77guV}0lPAS37hzONG7ZHMNBAwM0mKjt1mkUhHjdbyF

          • Jackson

Okay, now I connected to the PS3regpc access point before starting the remote play. Then I go into remote play, and it seems that it finds the PS3 and connects, but then when it seems to be registering, it just stops and gives me a:
            Program has stopped working error.

I just tried registering using the PS3regpc like you did but it does exactly the same as when I’m try registering using the home connection.

          • Jackson

I just can’t find anyway to register my PS3.
If you do figure out a way, please post it here so that I may know.

            wassup everyone

sorry about the late replies, i’m going to redo my setup on my newly rebuilt win7 x64 desktop. i’ll even do it without a wireless adapter plugged in and post back any probs/errors and possible solutions to your probs :)

          • Umar Kaleem

Hello. I have to same problem. Everything works fine but then when I enter the 8 digit number, the program stopped working. Its annoying!

          • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

i wonder if you need to perhaps try to using a wired connection to your router from your laptop. i just redid my setup on my desktop pc without a wifi card and it worked without a hitch. here’s a link to my full screencast of me doing the reinstall w/some notes even :)

            some notes on my install/setup:
            desktop pc
connected to wifi router via wired connection, ps3 connected via wifi
            windows 7 64bit
remote play installer was from sony’s site

i just uploaded it so it may take a few minutes to process.

          • Bludgeonesis

thanks for the amazing effort you have gone to. I did everything you did but I’m having the same prob.

the only thing that is different for me is when i install remote play i dont get the directx update section. I used the link at the top of the page for the sony download. So i used one of the above links to update my directx “http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en” and downloaded the file and it looked to update directx for me. having said that this version did not have the xna logo at the bottom and i also dont think it said software development kit either.

            Could this be the prob?

Don’t know why your install automatically checks directx for you and mine does not.

            regards

          • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

i honestly think it may be. one thing to try again would be to fully uninstall the remote play software, delete the “C:Program Files (x86)SonyRemote Play with PlayStation 3″ folder. Reboot your pc, try to reinstall again using this remote play client: http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/80

honestly not sure where to go after this :( may be some runtime
s got messed up on your laptop too. i’d def try that installer link i included.

          • Bludgeonesis

I just noticed in the folder you open at the start of the youtube video that you have some other files in there. One of them is a hex editor.

Is this something i should have also?

Downloaded the sony install again from the link you provided and the directx update section did not open…………
            :(

          • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

you shouldn’t have to. i never hacked anything w/the hex editor but you can try that way too if you want. this thread may help too in the problems:
            http://www.ps3-hacks.com/2010/06/21/vaio-remote-play-patch-released-use-sonys-remote-play-on-non-vaio-pcs/

do you have any antivirus or firewall apps running? i would try disabling them temporarily while you try to run the remoteplay app.

          • Bludgeonesis

Thanks again for your input seamonkey.

Tried the above things and still no luck.

Have been on so many forums and there are more people having the same problem as me than there are people actually enjoying remote play on their PC.

It’s not a 32bit/64bit issue, it’s not a firewall issue or a brand issue, I just wish I knew more about computers.

What i find strange is that when the PC and PS3 are on the same network and an I attempt to register, it crashes almost immediately. Take them off of the same network and it doesn’t crash, but then obviously i cant register at all.

Something between the PC and PS3 is clashing somewhere, as it is for hundreds of other people.

One thing I have noticed when testing the connection on PS3, uPnP comes up as not available even though it is turnd on on my router. Am i supposed to have a port open maybe? If so do we know what number it is?

            Clutching at straws…………….

            .

          • Bludgeonesis

Can someone who has it working do an connection test on their ps3 to see if uPnP comes up as not available also?

          • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

mine does, my router does not do uPnP but remoteplay works fine for me ;)

remote play works off port: 9293

          • Jackson

            One question mate.
Are you running Official Sony Firmware, or are you running CFW?
            Custom Firmware?

          • Jackson

I’ll be following this also, as I have the exact same laptop with the same problem.

          • Bludgeonesis

No custom firmware. I’m running V3.56

  • Jake

Word of advice here: this all is a waste of time. Why?

. Can’t play ANY games (PS3 or PS1, not sure about other Playstation store non PS1 games tho)
    . Can’t use Netflix
    . Video streaming sucks
. Haven’t tried audio streaming, but I’m guessing it sucks too
. Not 100% sure about this, but I think I read somewhere that you can’t play Blu Rays
. The only use I could possibly think of is (I read someone on another site mentioning this as a somewhat legit use) is hooking a PS Eye up and monitoring your home with it. Even this seems somewhat unnecessary, and like something that no one would use

I spent over an hour trying to get remote play to work on my laptop, like the stubborn sob i am. Waste of over an hour of my life if you ask me.

If your PS3 has CFW, you can just edit the SFO file, and just enable remote play on it. Just backup the games you want to play, then edit their SFO file to enable remote play. :)
Just google or youtube how to install CFW on PS3 kmuew

  • Jake

I have read the cfw stuff, and I thought I read that you could only do remote play on your computer if had previously registered a PSP with the PS3 system you want your PC to remote to. Please tell me I read wrong, or that newer cfw allows you play games on your PC…

    • Jackson

      Nope.
CFW is just like the normal FW from Sony.
So if you install CFW onto your PS3, you should be able to do this tutorial right here.

      • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

yup! :) i do it with my ps3 phat that has cfw at the moment.

  • Emanuel Jones

um i need help i opened the program as an administrator but when i try the second command vrmapping it doesnt work do u know how to fix it its just like qaqas problem

  • Dwight1379

Loaded software no issue, But when running first time program stops working when it’s searching for PS3. and I get a close program message box.

  • Tobias

Same thing happens to me. My setup:
IBM Thinkpad r50p (laptop) with integrated WiFi linked to Router with cable
Ps3 Slim 3.55 connected to router with WiFi.

Also the Remote Play doesn’t work on my native resolution 1600×1200.

  • facanferff

I tried to register my PS3 but after I click Next after input 8 numbers, it shows “Searching” (or something like that) and doesn’t change from that. I am using Windows 7 in VirtualBox, PC and PS3 wireless to same router. I tried already to connect pc to router with ethernet but didn’t work. May you help me?

  • Nah

It worked first go around for me. It’s great!

    • Bludgeonesis

      Rub it in!! :)

Any chance you could check your connection in your PS3 to see if your uPnP says not available or something else.

Would enable me to cross anohter thing off of the list.

      • http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/jimmyselix jimmyselix

My PS3 does not use nPnP since i have an Airport Extreme Base and it does not do uPnP. HOWEVER, i did open up the remote play ports: 9293

        see if that helps perhaps?

I can’t help but notice that nobody has replied to posts concerning “It crashes on ‘registering PS3′” other than “Me too”. Can we get some USEFUL advice on what to do when it does that?
I don’t think it matters whether or not there is a laptop involved. We’re using Windows 7 (and the people who aren’t are idiots because it says ‘Windows 7′ in the page title).
I have had this problem. I am using WIndows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (on PC if you STILL care). I’ve registered the dlls as instructed, and replaced the files as instructed, and I’m using a wireless dongle, and it still gives buttkiss.
    How about some sage advice?

  • Mattdearden01

DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0X80070005. Any Answers please?

    • joe

i had the same problem but if u look at some of the q/a’s at the top youll find u just need run cmd prompt as administrator

  • Bludgeonesis

I have tried every recommendation given to me and still nothing. (many thanks seamonkey)

Someone must have some clue as to why when you enter in the number given by the PS3 during registration it crashes. Enter in any other 8 digit number other than the reg. code and it does not crash but then gives a message that it can’t register.

I’m almost at the point where I want to reformat my comp to 32 bit just to see if that works. More people seem to be getting it to work on 32 bit. Having said that I have read a post where someone got it working using 64 bit.

    ARGHHHHHHHH!

  • azshadiian

i have it all installed but the window is completely white there is no text

    • Bludgeonesis

      try adjusting your screen res.

  • Fringle

the crash when registering I belive has something to do with the version of mscrv80.dll. When it crashes the file listed is from visual c++ 2005 sp1 runtime. If we can somehow maybe replace it with the non sp1 file or remove it all together it may help but I dunno.

To the people that got it to work, do you have a directx 10 video card?

  • Bigacerc

ok i did everthing just like it says but when i go to tape in the register code it pops up remote play has stoped work what do i do

  • browner08

i have followed everything and have got to the registration stage and have the same problem as some of the above that it crashes when i try to pair the device.
i’m not very technical person and after reading you’re replys i got myself confuzed and was wondering if you could simplify it for me :)
    many thanks

    • jakkek750i

i also have your problem i think it’s patched (with ps3 3.0+ firmware) are you using W7 64-bit? laptop or desktop pc ?

  • iiirwin

” 3. Download and extract the NTAuthority Patch files. You should have 4 files including the readme. We will copy these files to this location, overwriting the files. Again this will vary depending on if your running 32bit or 64bit.

    32-bit: C:Program FilesSonyRemote Play with Playstation 3
    64-bit: C:Program Files(x86)SonyRemote Play with Playstation 3″

I’m confused after this step. I extracted the file but only boxes shows up and no text. What do I do from here?

  • Daryl W

This problem with the program crashing after the 8 digit code is entered is hardware related not software, I tried 32 bit windows 7 and 64 bit on the same machine both failed to connect to the ps3, tried the same program on another machine with windows 7 worked first time?
So until another version comes out iam going to have wait?

  • David

My issue is only when trying to access remote play when I am in a separate location from my ps3. I’m using a sony vaio and can connect using remote play just fine when I am at home next to my ps3 but when I go to somebody else’s house and try to connect, I always get a timed out error. For, “Remote play does use port 9293; you may need to forward this port on your router and open it up in your firewall.” How do you do that last part?

I even formated my PC and reinstalled Windows (7 Professional x64)

    So annoying :(

  • Khan

Thanx a gazzilion for all the help everyone…everyone worked out just fine for me so far…the only issue i now have is that when i enter the 8-digit code generated by the PS3 on my PC (windows 7-32bit) and it tries to register, the program goes white and then crashes….i always get the same error saying ” a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available” i have not been notified with any solution…

I’d be obliged and elated if anyone could provide a workable solution…suggestions please…..

PLEASE LET ME OUT HERE ASAP! I WILL REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

  • http://alphabit.co.nz Audiosmith

Make sure command prompt is running as Administrator!

  • ShadeX

I’m having the same problem many other people are having. I’m using Windows 7 (32-bit) and everytime it asks me for the 8 digit code and I press “Next” the program crashes.

Also, when my PS3 isn’t in Device Registration standby and I enter a random 8 digit number, the program doesn’t crash but it says “Device Registration Failed” like it should.
But when my PS3 IS is Device Registration standby and I enter a random 8 digit number, it crashes again.

So it doesn’t matter if the number is right or wrong, if the PS3 is in standby, the program crashes.
I hope someone finds a solution to this problem.

  • http://tech-recipes.com jimmy selix

    @ShadeX

let me try redoing this installation again on another 32bit Windows 7 machine i have tonight. i’ll see if perhaps i need to make an update to this guide.

what model PS3 do you have? a slim or the original phat models? Also, what version of WIndows 7, Home premium/ultimate/professional?

    Thanks!

  • Jimmy Selix

    @ShadeX

AHH!! i think i know what it is. my bad on this one. i believe you need to copy the patch files prior to running the regsvr32 commands. so basically steps 2 and step 3 should be swapped around. i am updating this article this weekend to correct that. sorry all about that.

i just re-did the setup on my 64bit desktop computer and it worked right away copying the dll and exe patch files first adn then registering the dlls via command line.

  • PC

    @jimmy

    thanks for the post
I tried swapping steps 2 and 3, it still hangs while it tries to register with PS3.

    I have windows 7 64bit.
    - antivirus was disabled during configuration
    - ports were open for this app.
    - In the windows event-viewer I see this error:
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\VRPUI.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_d09154e044272b9a\MSVCR80.dll
    Report Id: d1a62e86-fb7b-11e0-9933-90004e994843

    Any thoughts !! ?

  • Jimmy Selix

wait a second everyone having issues. Do you have a Wireless adapter connected? If not, the registration pieces will fail. My desktop has a usb wifi 802.11n adapter i use to get online with and is a requirement for registering your PC to the PS3. let me know!

i’ve been able to redo this hack/mod everytime i redo my desktop pc’s os and setup (usually about every 3-4 months)

  • PC

    @Jimmy

Yes, I am installing it on a laptop with a builtin wireless adapter.

If it is something to do with C:\Windows\System32\MSVCR80.dll , lets compare this file on your PC with mine.

    Go to its properties->details.

    File version: 8.00.50727.762
    Product version: 8.00.50727.762
    Size: 612 KB

  • Jimmy Selix

@PC i actually do not have this file on my pc. its running windows 7 Prof 64-bit with SP1 and all windows updates

  • PC

    @Jimmy

MSVCR80.dll is part of visual studio 2005 runtime (i believe). I found another location of MSVCR80.dll which is used by application in my pc. This file is different from the one in system32.

C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_d09154e044272b9a which might be different on your machine.

    File version: 8.0.50727.6195
    Product version: 8.00.50727.6195
    Size: 617 KB
date modified : 6/17/2011 (very much newer than the one in system 32).

    Thanks !!
I am not sure where am I going with this though :)

  • Evandro

Hello friends! I wonder so I did everything I said in the tutorial, but when I open the program, the program can not start missing pq D3DX9_42.DLL NOO your computer, try reinstalling the program to solve this problem. I saw good in SOME comments

  • brendon austin

Hi there, when you say open command prompt and type in the following you will get a registering message,,i dont seem to get anything like that after i hit enter

  • brendon austin

Ok so ive sorted all up to the registering of the ps3,,
Obviously it isnt working as all the other comments.

Is it possible that it wont register because i have updated the firware to 3.70..
I have read that the playstation has to have the firmware 3.55 in order for things like a hack to work.

If this is the case is there somewhere i can get the downgrade for 3.55 firmware.

Everywhere i find a dload the file has been removed because it is copyrighted.

Excuse the ignorance but im fairly new to the whole patching and cracking stuff..

    Please help

  • Jimmy Selix

    @brendon austin

i’m on the latest 3.70 firmware and just re-did this on my rebuilt Windows 7 Professional Edition (64-bit). I am in the USA using a US PS3.

i used the same files and links i posted in the guide and even have done this on my macbook pro, macbook air via bootcamp or vmware fusion.

how do you have your PS3 connected to the internet and are you on the same network as your PC/Laptop?

  • brendon austin

The ps3 is connected to a wireless router Thomson TG782T,,no cable going to the ps3..

The ps3 connects and signs in after turning it on so there is deffinetly a connection there..

I think it might be a setting in the router or on my network settings,,however i am no good with changing settings, unless its fully explained to me.

So unsure if they are on the same network, any help to pair these up would be much appreciated,,after looking it seems alot of people are having this same problem so it could possibly be the easy fix everyones looking for..

  • brendon austin

I forgot to mention i have a toshiba N723 laptop if that helps,,do i need to purchase one of those usb wifi 802.11n adapters or is that only for a wired desktop

  • Dentok

I tried the directions exactly, but I got the same problem. I clicked on debug and then noticed that faulting module is MSVCR80.dll. (Latest version of Direct X already installed)

I had no MSVCR80.dll anywhere in my PC, which is Win7x64 installed.

Then, I installed Visual Studio 2005, then I searched and found 11 msvcr80.dll files under winsxs folder. Their sizes are 612K, 617K, 778K, 783K, 803K.

I still get freeze after entering the registration number, and when I debug I still get the same MSVCR80.dll error message.

  • PC

    @Jimmy , Dentok

After MSVCR80.dll issues in windows 7, I tried it on windows Vista ultimate 64bit SP2 with platform update on a Vmware with USER32.dll -> ASER32.dll workaround.

    It worked in first attempt.

May be windows 7 64 bit home edition is not compatible with this patch.
PS3 firmware version does not matter and I did not have to install anything extra in Vista. Vista and windows 7 already have .net framework 3.5 or higher and directx 10 or higher, out of box.

I searched everywhere on internet, nobody is able to crack this MSVCR80.dll issue in win 7 so far. May be a .Net developer or patch developer understand it better.

hello all. i’ll be honest in that i am not sure why it freezes when it registers. i’ve redone this setup countless times on my windows 7 32bit and 64bit desktop without issues. i’ve done the mod/hack on my older HP laptop back when i had it, on my macbook air in vmware and on my lenovo thinkpad tablet x220. the only problem i have ran into is having to install the directx runtimes. is everyone in the USA using a USA PS3?

First it is easy you put the four files in the remote play playstatation 3 after the command line if it gives any errors make sure that you started the CMD as administrator, then gives error d3dx9_42.dll download here. Dll and resolve the problem after:http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_42
This done! enjoy playing at your PC’m from Brazil and my english is not it so these things blame google translate

  • Falord

Nice got it to work on first try. Thanks dude

  • Jack

I’m having the problem where the program crashes right after I input the 8-digit key and press ‘Next.’

Has ANYONE found a solution yet? I need this to work! :(

    • Tonza

I got the same error so how can i fix it?

  • Lord Lolland

It works perfectly… Only one problem; It is all pixilated, like im viewing it on a really low res screen (my screen is 1680×1050).

    • Pete

What PS3 Firmware version are you on and what PC or laptop are you using? So many people can’t get this to work and I include myself in this. If people can say what this works on it will help others to work out what the problems are.

In terms of your poor resolution problem the resolution is poor on a PSP and PS Vita using remote play and so I wouldn’t expect it to look good on a larger screen>

  • windows support

    just what I needed thanks…

  • khaled

i have the same problem with my win 7 (64 bit)

  • Muunia

I tried installing it and when i go to run it, it says, “Remote Play with PlayStation3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote PLay with Playstation3 will quit.”

    Anyone else experience this?

    • Screen mode

Change your computer resolution if you get “Remote Play with PlayStation3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote PLay with Playstation3 will quit.”

1920 x 1080 work. I think it only work with ‘widescreen’ type resolution.

For anyone experiencing the 0×80070005 error, try the following:

    a) Click on the Start button
    b) In the Start Search box type ‘cmd’
    c) Right click on the search result and select ‘Run as Administrator’
    d) type: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3 (without exclamations)
    e) Try re-registering the dll file and check what happens.

    regsvr32 vrpsdk.dll -hit Enter
(you will get a popup message confirming registering of dll)

    regsvr32 vrpmapping.dll -hit Enter
(again, you will get a popup message confirming registering of dll)

This worked for me on a Windows 7 64-bit desktop PC without issue.

    • Pillows

Not getting the popup for regsvr32 vrpsdk.dll like I do with regsvr32 vrpmapping.dll, I assume thats the problem I’m facing. Still getting the 0×80070005 error.

Is there a way to get this to work with Windows 8.1? I’ve tried, but when trying to register vrpsdk.dll it didn’t give me a confirmation message. I went and tried anyway, but it gave me a 0×000… error. I have no clue if it was an 8.1 problem or if I did something wrong. I used the Administrative version of command prompt, too.

You’ll need to scour the registry and remove all instances of Remote Play… might could use the search word ‘Sony’ to find them all.

Is both your PS3 and laptop/PC connected to the same network? Something wrong with your router? I’m not much of an expert either, but I’m just trying to help :)
