iPhone: View Safari browser history

What was the URL of that cool site? Ugh, what was it called? Keeping track of where you’ve been in a browser is an essential function for those of us who have a hard time remembering what day it is. The Safari in iPhone handles the history display a little differently than a standalone Safari on your computer does. Here’s how to access it.


The iPhone saves display space presents fewer options in its Safari browser by combining the display of your browsing history with the bookmarks function.

To view your browsing history on the iPhone, tap the bookmark button (looks like an open book at the bottom of a Safari browser window. The top item on the list is History:

Tap the history button in this list (see the red asterisk in the image above) and you’ll see the history see similar to the screen below:

The history is grouped by day into subfolders with your open and most recent pages displayed above them. To revisit an item from your history, just tap it. The behavior is just like a bookmarked item. Combining history and bookmarks on the iPhone is elegant (as long as you know where to look).
