XP SP2: Automatically Allow Pop-Ups from Secure (https) Sites

Generally, if you are on a secure, encrypted site such as your email or banking, you want to accept pop-up windows. Here is how to make that the default.

We all celebrate the fact that XP SP2 now as a pop-up blocker--yeah.

Many secure, encrypted sites use pop-up windows to aid in their function. Banks, email, and other such sites use this commonly. How do you allow these windows without allowing all the ad windows as well?

Well, secure sites use HyperText Transport Protocol (Secure) or https; thus, these sites will typically be prefaced with https:// instead of http://

By using a reghack, you can automatically accept all pop-ups from secure sites. Of course, don't screw with the registry if you don't know what you are doing.

Do this:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type regedit in the textbox and click OK
4. Navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows


5. Double click AllowHTTPS
6. Change value data to 1
7. Close regedit
8. If it doesn't work, you may need to reboot to see it take affect
