Quickie Recipe to Backing up Your DVD Movies: DVD2one Method
This is a quick recipe for those movie/dvd enthusiasts/addictives (yes, guilty as charged!). Seamonkey420’s quickie to movie backups. This recipe is a quick run-through on how to make backups of your precious collection of dvds. Most movies we buy are DVD-9 (dual layered, approx 9.2GB) were most of us own a single layer burner (DVD-5, 4.6GB). Required Software: DVD Decrypter, Ifoeditor, Neroburn or Easy CD or any dvd burning software, and DVD2one.
Introduction:
This recipe is from my own personal collection, was starting to collect dust, haha! As everyone is aware, with the advent of dvd burners began a new era in digital backups and a media format war; so far there are no winners just us consumers with more choices in dvd-r or dvd+r.
Note: As a consumer, we all have a RIGHT to make a backup of original copyrighted material which we have purchase, however the industry still will create counter-measures, CSS and Macrovision protection schemes.
This recipe will explain how to make a backup of your DVD you’ve purchased using DVD2one.
This recipe will only keep the MOVIE only, no menus or extras.
One important thing i recommend is using seperate folders for each step (ie, STRIP1 for step one, STRIP2 for step 2, etc… makes things easier in the end, trust me!) I also recommending having a seperate partition 20GB or larger in size (i have a 80GB dedicated to ripping).
This process takes approx. 30 minutes including processing and burning time.
Required Software:
DVD Decrypter (or Smartripper)
Ifoeditor (newest versions recommended!)
DVD2one
Burning Software (anything that can burn dvd movies)
Step 1. Decrypting movie to your hd
Open DVD Decypter.
Go to Mode > File (make sure there is a check by File)
Then go to Edit > Select Main Movie Files
DVD Decrypter will now highlight the movie only vobs on the right.
I also rip the VIDEO_TS.IFO with the main movie (seems to solve weird probs i have once in a while with movies not wanting to be stripped by ifoeditor)
Then click the Folder with a magnifying glass icon, and choose where to save your movie too (in my example, D:\STRIP1 )
Then Click the Burn button (dvd with arrow pointing to hd).
Let it do its thing. This process rips the CSS and Macrovision protections from the movie and copies the vobs and ifo files to your pc harddrive.
Step 2. Shrinking the Movie with DVD2one
Open DVD2one
Select the folder where we saved the movie to (in my example, D:\STRIP1 )
Then select a different folder to save the new files to (in my example, D:\STRIP2 ).
Then Click Next.
On this next screen, choose which audio streams you want (language) and if you want subtitles and if the movie is a multiangle movie the angle (NOTE! sometimes it may appear to be multiangle but its more that the angle2 just contains spanish intro and credits…).
THen click Next, and let DVD2one do its thing, prob about 15 minutes this will take.
Step 3. Burn the movie
Now open up your favorite burning program of choice, i’d recommend using the pre-setup/wizard for burning dvd movie files (in nero).
Just put the movie files from the STRIP2 folder in a VIDEO_TS folder on the blank disc and click burn.
Hopefully, in 5-20 minutes (depending on your dvd burner speed) you should have a working backup of your much valued movie.
This again is a quickie, like my mom said.

Optional/Add. Approaches
Movies under or around 4GB to 4.5GB
-If the movie is under 4.36GB after decrypting it to your harddrive, you do not need to use dvd2one since it is under the size a movie can be to fit on a blank, single layered dvd. Follow these steps below.
After Step 1.
Open Ifoeditor.
Then click the Open button, go to the folder where we saved the movie files using dvd decrypter (in my example, STRIP1), then open the VTS_0x_1.VOB (x = depends on the movie, most are 1 or 2, dvd decrypter will know since we selected the main movie files only!).
Then Click the VOB Extras Button.
A new screen will popup.
On the left side, make sure you have these items checked!
-Strip Stream’s
-Correct Vob-Unit Pointers in VOB-Files
-Correct Original IFO Files
-Create New Ifo Files
On the right side, make sure you have these items checked!
-remove P-UOps
-remove macrovision
-Adjust Vob-Unit pointers
-Adjust Audio/Stop point
and have VOB Size: 1GB
Then enter in the destination directory (in my example i save these files to the next folder, D:\STRIP2)
Then click OK.
On this next screen, it will bring up a Stream List:
Choose the languages and subtitles you want to keep
make sure you check the Correct IFO Tables at the bottom!!!
then click OK.
Ifoeditor will now start the stream ripping and vob/ifo corrections and blah blah more tech speak.. hehe…
Once its done, it will say it finished, click OK.
Now we need to do a few tidying up chores with Ifodeditor (such as removing region codes, p-uops (menu locks), and get the vts sectors)
Open ifoeditor again.
Open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file we just created (in my example, in D:\STRIP2\VIDEO_TS.IFO )
Then click the Region Free button, it might say “No RCE Checing Found in IFO”, thats because DVD Decrypter most likely removed the region code during ripping it to the harddrive, but this is a just in case type of thing. Just click OK.
THen click the Get VTS Sectors button and then click the OK on each of the next dialog boxes (prob. say that IFOeditor corrected vts sectores at so and so address.
Now we can go back up to Step 3. and burn these files to a blank dvd!
Hope that helps all of you movie junkies out there protect your investments…
