Outlook: Stop Microsoft Messenger Integration and Slow Email Viewing

Even with Microsoft Messenger disabled, the IM program can restart itself whenever Outlook is opened. This IM program also slows down the displaying of your email. The recipe describes how to disable this.

This should work for all versions of outlook before 2002.
Multiple people have noticed that Microsoft IM program messenger restarts itself everytime outlook is started. Annoying!
Several sites on the internet have documented that messages in the preview pane take several seconds longer to view if this is enabled as well.
Here’s how to squash this for good.
- 1. Open Outlook
2. Click Tools Menu
3. Click Options
4. Click Other tab
5. Uncheck Enable Instant Messaging in Outlook box
6. Click OK
