Doom III / Doom 3 Console Commands, Benchmarks, and Cheats (PC)

Doom 3 is out and the console will be a tweaker’s heaven. This will be a running update of console commands as they are discovered.

    CLTR - ALT - ` Opens the console
    (Hit the tilde key while holding the CLTR and ALT keys)
    Once the console is open, type in the following commands. Some only work within an active game.

    benchmark - benchmarks your system with different sizes of screen

    sizedown - decreases the size of the screen

    sizeup - increases the size of the screen

    map mapname - Opens a map named mapname

    bind - binds commands to key

    recorddemo - closes the console and starts recording until you die, send a stoprecording command, or quit. It defaults to \Doom 3\base\demos and names it subsequently demo000.demo

    stoprecording - stop the recording of a demo

    timedemo demoname - run a demo for a benchmark

    playdemo demoname - play a recorded demo

    avidemo - saves a demo as an avi

    god - God Mode

    screenshot - Records a screenshot and places it in the screenshot directory

    notarget - Enemies can not see you

    noclip - Toggles clipping on and off

    give all - Gives all weapons

    give weapon_chainsaw - Chainsaw
    give weapon_rocketlauncher - Rocket Launcher
    give weapon_machinegun - Machinegun
    give weapon_shotgun - Shotgun
    give weapon_plasmagun - Plasmagun
    give weapon_bfg - BFG

    testlight - Increases the light in the room

    gfxinfo - Displays info on your graphics card

    quit - Exits

    exit - Quits

    How to bring the console up, i've tried "²" but it doesn't work, help me :/

    The Console can be accessed with the CTRL-ALT-TILDE (~) key. Please
    note that use of the console is unsupported by Activision Customer
    Support. Please do not contact Customer Support with console command
    questions.

    Note: For ease of use, the console can be set to open with just the
    TILDE (~) key. To turn this setting on you must enter the following

    Open the console with CTRL+ALT+ `

    (that's pressing the tilde button while holding down cltr and alt keys)
    (If you can't find the tilde key, it's left of the numeric one key and the top of your keyboard.)

    Hey, has anybody figured out how to control ragdoll timing or effects? I'd like to change the zombies so that they can take more damaged before they gib, change their corpse disapearence effect to the demons burning away style, or simply make them industructable. Anybody help?

    also, I looked a the cvars, all 962 of them, and I still haven't found anything. I think what i need is to toggle a variable, but I don't know how to find and change vars, just cvars, unless, of coarse, the only vars I can change ARE cvars, which would mean to me that cvar mean changeable variable. :?:

    I just hate how zombies gib when I shoot them with the shotgun or when I headshot them with the auto-rifle. It just doesn't look good, or as cool, as the demon effects. :?

    Anyway, I'll keep looking, and post if I figure out how. It might be set in stone, it may not. I sortof have a solution that involves turning off the gore with the "g_bloodeffects" and setting it to 0, it get's rid of the annoying skeletons, but unfortunetly gets rid of my precious blood effect to. I'm gonna look for an effect that will allow me to re-enable the blood without the skeleton, but first I think I'll just beat the damn game! :wink:

    can someone tell me how to get the demo to record to an .avi? i can't for the life of me get it to work.

    Maybe the function call is there but the fuction is not. Some commands like weapon splat do absolutly nothing.

    Oh, and that anti-gib command I was looking for? Forget it. Better programmers than me have tried, found it wasn't their, moded Doom, and then released it to www.planetdoom.com or www.fileplanet.com .

    If you want a change in Doom that you couldn't figure out how to do, try looking in the FilePlanet D3 mod section.

    RECCOMENDED MODS FOR DOOM 3

    Ungibable:

    Makes zombie/human corpses industructable, makes demon bodies last longer.
    The reason I would not reccomend downloading Fileplanets Nitro Gore mod is because it makes corpses last forever, and in playing the later half of D3 with the mod I found many conflicts with gameplay design, level design.
    Elevator doors, lifts, and even elevators themselves where blocked by unmoveable, unkillable corpses.
    I had to remove the corpses by beating them out of harms way with a flashlight or RL round, and at some point in the game their becomes a point where you NEED enemies to disintigrate so that they'll respawn, in order to progress...

    Same as above (actually it's a modified version of the above), but if you still want to rip of your enemys flesh with the RL, Nades, or BFG, this is for you. I have now tested it. It elimnates Ungibable's annoying (to me) habbit of making demon corpses last for a long time.

    Like the duct tape mode, however, different size flashlight on all weapons, and a targeting lazer on the pistol. People who played Halo will probably appreciate this mod.

    Hi,

    I want to code a mod that makes it able to use it with 3d goggles (e.g. crystal eyes). Can I go that deep into the game that I can change the viewing perspective and draw a white line at the bottom?
    Is there maybe some kind of documentation about modding doom3?

    WOW! 8O 3D goggles! Where'd you get em? Where can I get em? Any way...
    To my understanding, either you have to download a software "update" for the game from a 3rd party, usually an accomplice of the 3D goggles company, or the 3D glasses will work on any generic Direct X or OpenGL application.
    Doom3 is to my understanding OpenGL, but I could be very badly mistaken. Maybe it supports both?
    Anywayz, you'll HAVE to wait for the SDK to come out before you can do anything at a beyond scripting level.

    after a game is started is there a way to change the difficulty without starting over?

    Can some1 help me on this...I would like the crouch button to be a toggle button so I dont have to hold it down all the time. i like to creep around and now i think im getting carpel tunnel from holding the button for so long. ive tried to bind "CTRL" with "toggle _movedown" and many other variations but _movedown isnot a cvar. is there any way to do this?????

    When I tried these two settings all I got was a warning message saying "Unknown stat 'keys' added to player's inventory" (substitute keys for doom95)

    are they supposed to do anything for real?

    I do have the Doom95 game installed if it is needed.
