XP and Vista: Do Not Group Similar Tasks on the Taskbar

Posted July 16, 2005 by AlexTheBeast in Windows

Annoying. I just installed a couple of new systems and notice that this painful little feature is enabled by default. Here’s how to kill it.

Does “4 Internet Explorer” mean anything useful to you? Me either. Then why does windows group similar tasks on the taskbar by default?

Here is how to quickly ungroup:

    1. Right-Click on the taskbar
    2. Select Properties from the context menu
    3. Uncheck Group Similiar Taskbar buttons
    4. Click OK
