IE: Open Internet Explorer or Set Homepage to a Blank Page

The fastest page is a blank page. Here is how to set Internet Explorer’s homepage to a blank page.

Sometimes, it seems as though I open a million IE windows a day. If each of these episodes takes a few seconds to load, then I have lost valuable time. Setting the homepage to a blank page saves time.

If you want IE’s homepage to be blank, use the following steps:

    1. Open IE
    2. Click Tools menu.
    3. Click Internet Options.
    4. Click General tab.
    5. Under the Homepage section, click the Use Blank button.
    6. Click OK.

If you want a separate shortcut to open IE to a blank page, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on a blank section of desktop.
    2. Select New.
    3. Select Shortcut.
    4. In the textbox, place the following:
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome

    5. Click the Next button.
    6. Name it. (IE blank, for example)
    7. Click Finish,

Clicking this shortcut will always open IE to a blank page.

Even though I change it to about:blank

      > After upgrading to IE 11, the “use blank” choice button on the Internet Options/General tab is no longer there! How do I again choose a blank page when opening IE?

        > I had the same problem and finally discovered that if I went to Settings and Internet Options then to the General Tab where the homepage setting appears: highlight and delight the info in the box, then type in “about:blank” (which is the same as what appears in my earlier internet explorer version when I clicked on blank home page). Click on Apply. Presto, when you restart Internet Explorer you have a blank home page.
