Fix: When Double-Clicking on Folder or Drive, a Search Window Pops Up
Various random issues can cause your default actions for folders and drives to be changed. The most common thing that occurs is that the search companion starts when you double-click a file or folder. Spyware can do this as well. Here’s the fix.
This fix requires editing your registry. You should back-up your system before you continue.
Steps:
- 1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in the run box: regedit
4. Click OK
5. When regedit opens, go to the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\directory\shell 6. Click Modify on the Edit menu
7. Type none in the Value data box
8. Click OK
9. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\drive\shell
10. Click Modify on the Edit menu
11. Type none in the Value data box
12. Click OK
13. Close regedit

It did solve the problem with folder opening. Thanks. For this microsoft took me to support page and asked me to buy support for 60 bucks. It sucks…and Mickey/Mouse rocks !!!
I still have a similar problem with opening my C: drive. after double clicking I am asked to chose a program to open C: drive. Any clue how to fix this?
