XP: After Installation of Steganos Security Suite, the Context Menu is Slow

Posted May 23, 2005 by marko_tec in Windows

After instaliing Steganos Security Suite, the Context Menu (right-click) in Windows XP Pro can become slow. Here is the work-around.

In order to repair the Context Menu, I removed the following keys from the registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Steganos Security Suite 7

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Steganos Security Suite 7

After removing these two keys from the registery, the Context Menu (right-click) started to work normally. Before this fix, it would take almost 10 second to open.

Editor’s note:
Users have been complaining about Context Menu problems more and more since SP2 has been released. Deleting the Context Menu handlers (as in this case) seems to fix the issue.
