Browser Hack the Ovi Store to Download Nokia Apps and Games to Computer

Ovi Store is a great place for Nokia users to find and download applications, games, themes, videos and sounds. However, typically one must use a compatible phone or Ovi Suite. This tutorial describes how to download from Ovi Store directly to your computer from your browser. Detailed instructions are given for finding the direct links to the .jad files and on how to convert sis.dm files to .sis files.

Update 1: With the new Ovi Store update, some models may not work with method 1. Please try method 2.

Update 2 (9/17/2011): Update a working solution for method 2.

Method 1:

This requires using firefox as the browser. You will also need a Nokia user account which is typically the account you would use on your phone.

1. Install User Agent Switcher add-on and restart your Firefox.

2. Go to Tools->Default User Agent->Edit User Agent.

3. In User Agent Switcher Options window, choose New->New User Agent…..

4. Provide your phone name in Description field, change the User Agent field to the phone’s suitable User Agent code and hit OK. Because Nokia has many phone models, we can not provide exactly your phone model’s user agent code. If you need it, feel free to leave a comment and we will reply to you as soon as possible. Here are a few that should work:

S60v5 5800 user agent code: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; U; Series60/5.0 Nokia5800d-1/10.0.008; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

S60v3 E71 user agent code: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaE71-1/101.07.79; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413

5. Back to the User Agent Switcher Options, click on OK to close the window and save the setting.

6. Go to Tools->Default User Agent->Your phone model.

7. Now you can go to https://store.ovi.mobi/ and enjoy downloading applications, games and such right from your browser.

Method 2:

Special thanks to @Chris for this quick method.

1. Go to Store.ovi.com from your computer browser.

2. Log into your Ovi account.

3. Set your phone model.

4. Choose your applications or games.

5. The URL of the software will look like below.

6. In the address bar, add /download to the end of the URL, and hit Enter.

Note: These two method work with free apps and games.

If you download games, you may notice that you have downloaded a .jad file instead of a real .jar file. Here is how to get the direct link from Ovi Store from the .jad file.

1. Choose the game you want to download, hit Download. When the Firefox download window appear, choose Open with. You can open the jad file with notepad or Microsoft Word. (I recommend Microsoft Word because it is easier to find the download link). After that, click OK.

2. Look for the line begins with https://d.ovi.com, copy and then paste it to your browser address bar, hit Enter. It will work!

If you downloaded a file that has the extension .sis.dm, here is how to convert it back to .sis and install on your phone:

1. Download XIV32. After that, open the exe file from the zip.

2. Open the file with extension .sis.dm by XIV32. You can drag the file to the program’s window.

3. Look for the first 7A hex string. (you can use Ctrl+F to search). We will delete all strings from the begining to that string. Please do it carefully.

After that, it will look like this:

4. Scroll down the bottom, look for the first - symbol (in - – boundary). Delete from there to the end.

It will look like this:

5. Go to File->Save as. You can save that file with the extension .sis now. It will work on your phone

Anyway…… This doesn’t seem to work on N8. The store still recognise your computer as N8 but it only allow you to download the…. Ovi store app :(

I dont’ know why but when i switched the agent code back to 5800, it still works fine. Maybe you want to try the 5800 code instead, we use the same OS so no differences ;)

That’s my phone code and it’s still working (Please choose No thanks). You are using symbian s60v5 right?
I don’t know why some phones have that problem. But since there are only two main version of symbian: S60v3 and S60v5, we can exchange the user agent code ;)

To avoid having to use the firefox add in, you can just type in “download” and overwrite the send-to-friend extension for the url. For example, if you want an app, click on the send to friend button and the url changes to:
http://store.ovi.com/content/50573/send-to-friend
Overwrite the send-to-friend with download =
http://store.ovi.com/content/50573/download
Then you can save the file.

This is because Nokia has just updated their store so some new models
may have some different.

In fact, this method still works but it just redirect you to another
address. Can you access Ovi store from your N8’s default browser? If
you can, look for the real address and visit that address from your
firefox. Let me know if it works.

I’m finding the solution for some other phones too (my 5233 user agent
code still works fine). I’ll let you know if i find something else. ;)

After you add the code, you MUST open it in a new tab to make the code work. If not, you MUST restart your browser and choose the code. I’ve noticed that in the post.

I’m trying the 2nd method with Assassin’s Creed nokia game, but when I overwrite “send-to-friend” with “download” it says to me there is a “server internal error”…What can I do?
Another question: if the app (or game) must to be free, why i have to use the method 2? if it’s free i can simply download it and have it on my phone, right?? or not?! I would have the possibility to download the not free apps (the pay apps or games), but without spendind money…Please help me!

As a note in my post, this only works with FREE games. You can’t download paid game. That is illegal.

Of course you can download apps from the Ovi store on your phone. These two methods are helpful if you don’t have unlimited plan or you want to browse and download apps faster. Another advantage of this method is that you can get SIS or Jar files and share them with friends while Ovi doesn’t allow you to do that.

i was downloading angry birds i opened wid ms word nd then a window came file conversion nd it says choose text encoding that makes your document readable:

other decoding
in none of these the text ids in english nd its like 1000 pages

Only Jad files need to be opened with MS Word. With SIS file, put it on your phone and you can install it right away :)

“Allow application to use network and send or receive data?

What extension does your fruit ninja file have? (.sis or .jad or something else?)

You are using Firefox to download the file, right? If so, click the drop down menu (next to open with) -> choose Browse, and then point to the Microsoft Word’s exe file :)

In your case, the file is already a Sis file, so you don’t have to use Microsoft Word or anything else. Just copy the sis file to your memory card (SD card, i think), and then install it on your phone :) It’s that easy

The file will not be open with OviStore app because it is not a sis or a sisx file. The file is SIS.DM.
You don’t have to uninstall or delete anything. All you have to do is open the file with a hex editor, remove the code at the beginning and at the end => save it as sis file, and it should work fine. There is a small tutorial about that at the end of the post.

Ei Do you have any solution how to disable this connection required everytime i go to my games? it requires me to connect n to the network which is it will be charge for using mobile internet.

@Kram Xinren: Usually, games will only check for network connection when it starts, so you can turn off the connection when you are in the game already.
