Make the mailto: Protocol Work with the Gmail Tool instead of Outlook

If you downloaded the Gmail Notifier tool, you might have noticed the ability to make Gmail your “default client.” However, it does not work if you have Outlook installed, and it is not on the menu in Internet Explorer. The following tutorial describes how to fix this.

1. Go to Folder Options (View>Folder Options on 98/ME; Tools>Folder Options on XP/2003)
2. Find the option that contains “URL Mailto.” (It has the Outlook logo.)
3. Click Advanced, and delete everything there.
4. Hit OK, and then go to the Gmail options (on the task bar),
5. Uncheck the mailto box.
6. Repeat, thus, checking it this time,
