I know how to do this, but the selection list of my browsers in safari preferences are disabled…I don’t know why…can anyone help me please?

I have made Firefox my default web browser. When I click on shortcuts I have saved in a folder called Weblinks which I put on the dock, they open up in Safari. I cannot figure out what is going on.
