IE: User Can No Longer View Source in Internet Explorer

Posted August 28, 2004 by MickeyMouse in Windows

Sometimes, in Internet Explorer, you will no longer be able to view the source of a web page. This tutorial contains the fix for this issue.

Typically, clicking source under the view menu of IE will show the raw HTML code for the page. If this should stop working, use the following steps to fix it.

Most of the time, this error occurs when the Internet Explorer disk cache is full. It can also occur if notepad.exe is missing.

You can clear the disc cache by deleting the files in the following directory:

    C:\Document and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

where username is whatever name you used to log in.
