Somebody tell me how long you take when uninstall SP2 by disable L1 and L2 cache because I take very very long time (more than 15 hour) for uninstall SP2. My computer is PIII 800 Mhz RAM 256.

I've tried all these methods, also went to micrsosoft webpage but nothing seems to work..

anything that i enter in "Start- RUN" shows me an error message that the file doesnt exits, when i use recovery it also says " flie doesnt exist" and last, Add and Remove Options also dont list the SP2.

My Windows XP version is said to be the 2004 version, in which SP2 is already pre integrated.

Any Ideas on how to proceed?

Same problem as joe, SP2 is integrated into my XP CD. :(

This is the best way to remove sp2 if the "run command" cd $ntservicepackuninstall BLA BLA BLA... if you have already tried this manual uninstall//// this is what your last option is: Boot from cd DO NOt Hit(R) hit enter in order to do a repair install. Your next option would be to hit r (repair) . the trick is some people hit r first....do not!!!!!

i instald sp2 and i restarted it and it ses somthin can not read from librarey i thimk it refering to the pass wor registery ??? help emaiul me cuz im i n school doing this redrider1@gmail.com and i have in vites a valibl

When i try to do that the start>run method, instead of using windows in the address, i have to use WINNT.

Anyway...it wants to install SP1 instead of SP2.

What i see in that folder tho, is a set of other uninstall folders with SP2 in parenthesis, numerous ones. But none looking the same as the SP1 one.

If you are unable to uninstall sp2 by the run command you need to do the following:

Open My Computer>Tool>Folder Options>View>Select 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
Now you can go through explorer and execute:
c:windows$NtServicePackUninstall$spuninstspuninst.exe

This worked for me.

Was going insane, as I tried quite a few other hints & tips. SP2 acted more like a virus than a virus and even hid itself away. Got XP&SP1 back and my PC will stay that way until, MS REALLY sort it out.

I read the previous postings but coundnt find a solution for my problem. It is even more complicated: A year ago I installed windows XP with SP1 integrated than upgraded with BETA release of SP2 (msinfo32.exe says Windows XP Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2, v.1213
Build 2600 , also Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.1200 (xpsp2.030403-2111)" ). When installing the BETA SP2 I made the mistake checking the option to do not archive files and now I can neither uninstall it nor upgrade to the official SP2, but I want to because this BETA release really sux and extremely buggy. The new SP2 says "The Service Pack cannot be installed on the top of the Windows XP Service Pack 2 currently installed on your system. Cancel this installation process, uninstall your current Windows XP Service Pack 2 build, then re-install this Service Pack". Some solutions about that different than repairing from installation CD or pre-installing Windows XP? 10x

When I selected View Hidden Files in order to see the Unistall file in the Windows folder, there appeared about 10 such files, all the same but for the ending numbers. Which one do I use? And when I unistall SP2, will I be left with a plain XP or will it revert to SP1?

i dont know if this is legal or not, but i'm having someone send me those files from the uninstall folder. than i am going to reinstall it cuz the windows firewall doesnt want to run, nor is there a service in the service.msc thing

I have this exact same problem and can't figure out how to resolve it. It won't allow me to install DirectX 9.0c without the latest sp2. How frustrating... I realize the age of this thread so I was wondering if anyone here has made any progress?

1. go control panel
2.open the folder named folder options
3.chose show hidden files
4.go to c:windows
5.delete the $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder

That is not how to uninstall SP2, all you told people to do was delete the system files from their previous install (XP, XP SP1, or XP SP2beta)

When you unistall SP2 is it now considered SP1? in terms of what you would call it such as windows XP SP2 or SP1 etc...

I have used every suggestion in this forum trying to get rid of SP2, and so far absolutely nothing works. I even went to MS to ask for help, and even though their SP2 royally messed up my computer, and gave me a lower download speed, they wanted $34 an hour to correct it. Why should I pay them anything when their product screwed up my equipment? Is there no justice? :evil:

I too have integrated SP2. My laptop came with XP Home SP2, so my first move was to upgrade to XP Pro. That failed, because my XP Pro CD does not have any service packs on it. In short, MS expect me to pay £££s for a new XP Pro CD, when I already have one, and I have both SPs on separate CDs. Luckily, My university gave me access to MSDNAA, so I could get a copy of XP Pro SP2 for free. That still leaves me with the problem of how to get rid of the bloody SP2. nothing posted here works, and there is no uninstall dir. :x
