XP SP2: How to Remove or Uninstall Service Pack 2

This tutorial walks the user through two simple ways of removing SP2.

I believe SP2 is a wonderful upgrade; however, it obviously causes some problems on a few systems. If you are one of these unlucky ones, here are a couple of way of removing service packs.

From the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder

    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Run.
    3. Type the following in the open textbox:
    c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe
    4. Click OK.
    5. The removal wizard will start to walk you through the removal.

From the Add or Remove Programs Section:

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Click the Add or Remove Programs Icon.
    3. Click the Show Updates checkbox.
    4. Scroll down and select Windows XP Service Pack 2.
    5. Click Remove .
