By default, the Facebook Messenger app only lets you change your conversation theme to a limited number of colors. You may find that Messenger does not offer enough color options or your favorite colors. Luckily, it is possible to change the color of chat bubbles inside Messenger to any color that you like with the help of a free app on the app store.

In this tutorial, an app called Mauf will be used. The app is available for free in both the Play store and the App Store for iPhone. Even though the screenshots in this tutorial are for Android devices, the iOS version of Mauf works the same way.

How to apply custom colors to Facebook Messenger:

1. Open the Play Store or the App Store, and download the free Mauf app.

2. Open Mauf, dismiss the pop-up window, and log in to your Facebook account.

3

3. Once you are logged in, you will be asked to give permissions to the Mauf app. Please do so. The app should be able to read your public profile information after you grant it permission.

4

4. After the authorization, you will see a grid of your Facebook conversations. The blue rectangle indicates that the conversation is using the default color blue for chat bubbles. I will later change this to another color. The number above the rectangle indicates the number of total messages sent for each chat.

5

5. Simply tap on the conversation for which you want to change the color, and then select the color from the pop-up window. If you cannot find your favorite color in the window, select the Custom tab, and select the color that you want.

6

7

6. Once you are done, tap Apply Color. The change takes effect immediately, and your friends will be able to see this change as well.

8

7. If you ever want to change the color again, just repeat the steps above.
