XP: Fix for Windows No Longer Associated with Zip Files

Posted August 12, 2004 by MickeyMouse in Windows

Installing compression programs can prevent XP from working well with your zip files. This tutorial explains turning XP’s ability to handle zip files back on.

Users install multiple compression programs. All of them try to grab compression associations from all the other compression programs. Once you uninstall some of these programs, your system does not know what to do anymore.

To correct this, you can turn XP’s ability to handle zip files back on:

    1. Click on Start
    2. Click Run
    3. In the Open box, type the following: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll
    4. Click Ok
