The pop-up blocker makes a cute little sound when a pop-up is blocked. Here’s how to configure that sound.

XP Service Pack 2 includes a pop-up blocker. When a window is blocked, a sound is made to let the user know. This sound can be turned on, turned off or changed.

Turn the sound on/off:

    1. Open an IE window
    2. Click Tools
    3. Select Pop-up Blocker
    4. Selct Pop-Up Blocker Settings
    5. Unclick or click Play Sound When Pop-Up is Blocked
    6. Click Close

Change the Pop-Up Sound:

    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Click Sounds and Audio Devices
    3. Click Sounds tab
    4. Under Program Events scroll down to Windows Explorer
    5. Click Blocked Pop-Up Window
    6. Select a sound from the drop down box or browse for a new sound
    7. Click Ok

I was going absolutely CRAZY since installing service pack two with microsoft's pop up blocker. Even when I had turned it off, I was still hearing that INCREDIBLY ANNOYING NOISE. I finally figured it out myself. The problem was that I also had the Google pop up blocker. Even though I had turned the sound off on it, I had only disabled the microsoft popup blocker in IE. You need to turn on the IE popup blocker, then go to popup blocker settings and turn off the sound. Unless you do this, even though you have the sound off, it will make a sound every time your google pop up blocker blocks a pop up.

I also have xp pro with sp2 - on a similar note, im having difficulty turning off the "Start Navigation" click which sounds every time you click on a link in IE. I select "none" for "Start Navigation" click apply, ok, but whether i save the scheme or not, xp always puts the click back. I just cant get rid of it!
