Uploading Ringers via Hiptones XP | Hiptones XP Tips (CSK and SK2)
This recipe is a quickie on how to upload your ringers you created!!
This recipe ASSUMES you have the dev kit and key.
And you have used it to upload Hiptones XP to your sidekick. This will work for both the Color Sidekick and Sidekick 2.
Pre-steps:
-download and install developers kit from developer.danger.com for your device.
-apply to developer key using your sidekicks IMEI # and your username
-upload developer’s key received in email to sidekick allow it to be able to upload apps, tones, etc (unlocking it for developer uses)
-upload hiptones bundle file using htconsole
Step 1. Create a ringtone
Here are some basic rules defined by Danger on specs on what ringer should be:
.wav or .aif file
under 100kb in size (for max performance)
under 15secs in length (again for max performance)
IMA WAV 4:1 compression
highpass filter at 250hz
4db boost at 4000hz
8bit, mono
11khz bitrate
i have been using Nero Waveditor or Sonic Foundry to crop my songs and to do the higpass filter and 4000hz boot and then save it as a normal wav file.
Then i use good ole sound recorder to convert it to the IMA wav file with 11khz bitrate, 8bit mono sound and as a .wav
2. Uploading to Hiptones XP
once you do this, you’ll probably wanna get the tone to your sidekick! hehe..
you can either:
a. get a a free site from angelfire.com (geocities won’t work!!! since you can’t do directlinking to files..)
or
b. Setup your own webserver
Once you do, just upload your .wav file to your site/server and go into the Hiptones XP application on the sidekick.
Go to the Site Manager, then Menu > Add URL, then add your full web address to the folder where your going to save your ringers (ie www.angelfire.com/yoursite/ringerfolder/ )
Now you should have a address listed on the Site Manager, highlight it and click it, now just put in the internet address of your ringtone (ie. http://www.angelfire.com/yoursite/ringerfolder/sidekickringer.wav), and also what you want the name of it to be and click Fetch.
You got yourself your own custom, hifi ringer for a cheap price of the time it took you too learn to use the dev kit and create the ringer!! for some that equals $2.99 (the cost of the ones they can buy rather than create, ahah!)
Some Hiptones XP Info and Using Tips
Understanding the Storage Manager | Custom/System Store in Hiptones XP
-In hiptones xp, you are given a number of system store and a custom store. the system store is basically the ringers you can use on your csk/sk2 as ringers/alerts/etc.. the custom store are your ringers you’ve uploaded… you can discard system ringtones but they still are available in your custom store, so if you want, you can later copy a tone from the custom store to the system store.. if you don’t want the ringer at all, just delete it from your custom store.. i know this took me a few tries to understand…
hope that helps u beginner sidekick geeks out..
peace
