This describes how to uninstall the windows messenger IM client on XP, XP SP1, and XP SP2.

Windows Messenger by default is installed, painfully visible, and loads-up upon start-up. Luckily, it can be easily removed:

If SP1 (or SP2) is installed–

    1. Select your Control Panel
    2. Select Add or Remove Programs
    3. Select Add/Remove Windows Components
    4. Unselect the checkbox on Windows Messenger
    5. Click Next
    6. Click Finish
    7. Reboot

If SP1 is not installed–

    1. Click Start
    2. Select Run
    3. In the open textbox type:

    rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

    4. Click OK or press the Enter Key
    5. Reboot
