Display or Remove Welcome Screen after Screensaver

Displaying the welcome screen after the screensaver is occasionally useful. This tutorial describes how to turn it on or off.

This is a common scenario. The screensaver turns on. A user moves the mouse and finds himself or herself sitting at the welcome screen. An extra click is needed to get into the desired workspace.

Some users might consider this a necessary part of XP. However, for many, this feature is an inconvenience.

To disable the welcome screen after the screensaver, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on a blank area on the desk top.
    2. Select properties from the context menu that opens.
    3. Left-click the screensaver tab.
    4. Unclick the checkbox On resume, display Welcome Screen to disable. (Conversely, click the checkbox to enable it.)
    5. Click OK.
