The 5 star rating system in iTunes just doesn’t quite make the cut. There are songs that are definitely better than a 4 but not quite a 5. How do you account for rating songs more accurately towards your liking? By enabling half-star ratings you have 10 units of measurement instead of only 5.

1. Close iTunes.

2. Open Terminal.

3. Copy, paste and execute the following command:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes allow-half-stars -bool TRUE

4. Close Terminal.

Open iTunes and go to the songs you wish to rate. Clicking on stars will give you a “whole star rating” while clicking between starts will use the half-star measurement between them.
