Clear Excessive Storage Consumed by Microsoft Silverlight
The way Microsoft SilverLight caches video can take up large amounts of hard drive space. Deleting these files can clear up precious storage space for other applications.
Recently reddit user everyotheridwasused noted that Microsoft Silverlight was using almost 3G of SSD space within his Library folder. He deleted this data and his Silverlight installation continued to work correctly.
I have seen this problem on systems before in a different context. The user had uninstalled Silverlight and was upset that several gigs of hard drive space was not reclaimed. Frequently, these huge cache files are missed when Silverlight is uninstalled which can leave this hard drive space needlessly consumed.
You can see if Microsoft Silverlight is hogging your hard drive space through the following steps:
1. Navigate to the Finder menu -> Go -> Go to Folder
2. Jump to the Silverlight folder by pasting in the following path:
3. Any folders under the is folder likely can be safely deleted.
Although I have never seen this break Silverlight’s functionality, I honestly do not know Silverlight’s complete data structure. If this should break your Silverlight installation, a simple reinstallation will repair it.
